Director Cynthia Wade won an Academy Award® in 2008 and was nominated for her second Academy Award® in 2013. She’s won festival awards all over the world, include two awards at Sundance, three awards at Palm Springs, and prizes in Aspen and the Hamptons film festivals, as well as film awards in Spain, Italy, Argentina and Belgium. She directs films for clients such as HBO, Cinemax, Sundance Channel, IFC Channel, and PBS. Her commercial clients include Dove, Hershey, Proctor & Gamble, Kimberly-Clark, Sesame Street, Pfizer, Bristol-Myers Squibb, Sanofi, Salix, Shire, the National Guard and Phoenix Children’s Hospital.
Her 2014 ad campaign SELFIE, on behalf of Unilever’s Dove brand, was awarded a Clio Image Award and grabbed five million views within the first two weeks of being posted online. SELFIE was featured twice on the Today Show, in the New York Times style section, Marie Claire, Elle, and more. Ad Week selected it as an ad of the day, noting that it finds “fertile, even poignant creative ground in the Selfie...it is plenty affecting, as its everyday stars struggle with the pressures of beauty—yet still find the courage to turn the cameras on themselves with other cameras rolling.”
Her 2015 branded short documentary END MOMMY WARS, on behalf of Abbott's Similac brand, went quickly viral, capturing millions of views. She is the producer of the CNN award-winning film THE GNOMIST, which captured 3.5 million views online.
Cynthia is a MacArthur grant recipient and holds a Master’s Degree from Stanford University in Documentary Film.
